Artist and Educator

Eliza Sarah Patter is an artist who is inspired by the natural world, and an art educator, who is dedicated to the development of unique creative expression and perspective.

Eliza Sarah's love of art was first sparked when studying the work of Impressionist painters and Japanese woodblock printmakers from the Edo period. Their work captured  fleeting ephemeral moments and transforming colours and effects of changing light, changing weather and changing seasons in the natural world. Time is not linear but cyclical, measured in moments, not by clocks, but measured in moments of mindful presence with nature.

Eliza Sarah's passion for making art first started with printmaking and mixed-media, then later developed into photography. Her recent photography is still inspired by the work of Impressionist painters (as well as other painters in the Modern era) and by Japanese printmakers who depicted  a moment in nature's cyclical time, where the hour, day and month are identifiable by the colour of the sky or position of the moon or sun, and/or the seasonal changes, which are all well documented in the Japanese traditional calendar of four main seasons, twenty-four small seasons and seventy-two microseasons.

Eliza Sarah’s work incorporates both planned and analytical approaches as well as experimental and expressive approaches to digital & analogue photography, and to the medium of light itself. When using a camera, the camera functions create the image in that specific moment, therefore the images are not post-edited.

Selected photographs are giclée printed, large-scale and are immersive in exhibition. Photographs will soon be available for purchase in a range of sizes, please contact via email or fill in the form below for further info or general enquiries.
